On the reverse, the photo is signed "H.G. Gallard / Photo", but is undated.
The photograph = is identical to one held by the State Library of Victoria, though the SLV photo is in far superior condition (http://handle.slv.vic.gov.au/10381/86341).
The SLV sumarizes the image as "Weatherboard house with verandah supported by thin iron columns and with iron lacework along roof line and wrought iron balustrade, steps leading to gate in picket fence. On the footpath stand three children, full face, two boys and a girl."
They also note that the photographer might be "H.C. Gallard, Tamworth, N.S.W., 1884."
SO - it's a mystery to me. Who was H.G. Gallard? Searching the NLA Trove digitized newspapers does not reveal a likely Gallard who was a photographer. The image gives one the impression of a commercial photographer taking photographs of each house, and selling them to the resident.
Anyone out there have any ideas who H.G. Gallard was?
As an aside, the State Library of Victoria has a second photo signed by H G Gallard, showing the shopfront of G. Moore, wholesale confectioner. That business appears to have operated in Maitland NSW in the 1870s under that name, and possibly onwards to the early 1900s. Perhaps the above photo was also taken in Maitland?
George Moore was a cricketer who played for New South Wales:

(I wonder if the children in the photo are the same as those in front of the house)
